The Ottawa Fire Department has announced the promotion of Firefighter Cody Schraad to Fire Lieutenant. Cody’s journey in the fire service began when he was in high school in Olathe, through their Fire Explorer Program. He joined the Ottawa Fire Department as a volunteer in 2013 and was accepted as a full time employee in March of 2014. In addition to his new role as lieutenant, cody continues to be a great asset to the department. He says he takes great pride in serving as a small engine repairer and car seat safety technician and assists with the community risk reduction efforts. Your kids may know Cody from public education events and station tours, where he is known as “silly Cody” Fire Chief Shawn Dillon says Schraad’s attention to detail and efforts in other roles, along with future goals, will enhance the department in the future.
He is pursuing a degree in Fire Science at the Kansas City Community College and has completed several national level certifications, and Dillon says his continued leadership, mentorship and dedication will significantly benefit the department and the community. Congratulations!
