The City of Ottawa formally recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence has been touted as the most underreported crime in the country. Maggie Bornholdt, Assistant Director of Rural Services for Willow Domestic Violence Center accepted the proclamation:
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, in 2023, one domestic violence incident was reported in Kansas every 23 minutes. Kansas law enforcement made one domestic violence arrest every 46 minutes.
