The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Ottawa will have a special visitor this morning, November 26th. Senator Jerry Moran will be in town and at the sheriff’s office on Beech Street to announce federal resources for the local sheriff’s department. As the lead Republican on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, Senator Moran helped secure federal resources for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to acquire body scanners. The machines are another way to keep contraband out of the county jail with the goal of not only keeping jail staff safe, but also the inmates. Body scanners are increasingly used in correctional facilities to enhance security and prevent contraband from entering the premises.

Moran will announce the funding for the scanners this morning at 10:00 at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in the Training Room.
