An Ottawa man charged with 1st degree murder in the death of Nathan Boggs, west of Princeton last year, has been found guilty of a lesser charge. Forty-one-year-old Timothy Corn was in court last week for a jury trial in the case. He was accused in the shooting death of Boggs in July of 2023. Corn was convicted of voluntary manslaughter at a jury trial on October 31st.

According to Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones, the defense was that the defendant was acting in self-defense. The victim had been sending the defendant threatening messages and he did have brass knuckles in his back pocket at the time he was shot, although the testimony was clear that he did not brandish them.

Originally, 33-year-old Jessica Smith of Ottawa was also charged with murder in the case. However, at her preliminary hearing, Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones says she provided evidence against Corn that made it very clear that Corn was the only one involved with the shooting. She faces sentencing in the case December 19th.
