Agriculture has been a staple in the Kansas economy since it’s beginnings. But, early on , agriculture was not easy in the state. It was so difficult that the United States Government sent a young frontiersman to help. Mark Oppold with more on this young man:
Just like his famed pioneer father, Daniel Morgan Boone enjoyed scouting and settling new frontiers. He was the first Boone to set foot in Missouri and one of the first settlers in Kansas. As a child, he followed his father on hunting trips and soon felt at ease in the unknown wilderness. Boone also helped teach native Americans how to grow crops, and in the 1820’s moved his family to what is now Lawrence, where he worked as an agriculturist.
