The preliminary hearing for an accused murderer in Franklin County was held recently. Jason Marnell is charged in the death of his one year old son. Prosecutors say he was responsible for the injuries that one month old Waylon Marnell died from. The charges stem from a response to a medical call in Richmond on January 14th, where first responders found an unresponsive infant. He was transported to AdventHealth Ottawa and died two week later at Children’s Mercy Hospital. His formal arraignment is scheduled for December 23rd at 1:30 in the afternoon.
Marnell is also being held on charges rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. These stem from actions several years back. Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones says the new charges came to their attention shortly after the homicide and were examined by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Jones says they got the case back from the KBI in late October and immediately filed the new case.
