A former Kincaid man faces 40 years in prison as a repeat sexual offender after a conviction handed down this week in Anderson County District Court. Anderson County Attorney, Elizabeth Oliver, charged Kevin Labelle in February with a number of offenses including felony sodomy with a 14-year-old boy.

Labelle portrayed himself on social media as the head of a prison ministry from his location in Kincaid, although Kansas City’s Christian Bible College and Seminary , where he took instruction, says he never completed his degree program.

Labelle was adjudicated as a juvenile in 1988 for indecent liberties with a child and had a subsequent conviction as an adult in 2017 which landed him on the Kansas Sex Offender Registry. He won a partial appeal of his sentence in 2010 after arguing court officials included his juvenile judgement when considering extending his sentence on the 2017 case.

Oliver gave praise to the work of Anderson County sheriff’s Office Detective Bob Ward, along with other members of the department who assisted in the investigation, as well as the courage of the victim for his testimony in the case. Labelle will be sentenced on January 13th.
