The brief but fierce snowstorm that came through the area Saturday, November 30th, took its toll and claimed the life of a Shawnee man. Saturday morning, just before 11:00, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office responded to a one vehicle crash on I-35 at mile marker 188, the Highway 59 overpass. Upon arrival, they found that 70-year-old Jeff Robertson, who was traveling southbound, had lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions. He left the roadway, struck a bridge pillar and overturned in the ditch. Robertson was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Several other accidents were also reported that morning, including a three vehicle accident near the Wellsville exit. A vehicle driven northbound by a California man lost control and drove through the median and into oncoming traffic. Two vehicles headed southbound attempted evasive maneuvers and due to icy condition spun out, eventually colliding with each other. A passenger of the first vehicle was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Several other slide offs were reported.
