Last year, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department announced they had cracked a 40-year-old cold case and now the family of Tawnya Knight is hoping hers is next. Fifteen-year-old Tawnya from Spring Hill, was killed after leaving a friends house in 1996, her remains found in a field six months later. Her mother Lori Aubry Knight is a 1977 graduate of Ottawa High School and says the Johnson County case was inspiring and she spoke with the detective in charge:
The Johnson County Sheriff’s office has a dedicated group investigating cold cases. They say a private investigator hired by Knight has uncovered some information not discovered in the original investigation. After 28 years, Lori Knight is ready to see Tawnya’s killer, or killers, brought to justice.
