Everyone is familiar with the ruby slippers that dorothy wore on the Wizard of Oz. An original pair of the slippers, one of four surviving pair worn in the movie by Judy Garland, sold at auction Saturday, December 7th. This pair was once stolen from a museum in Minnesota, and recovered over 20 years later. Those slippers set a record for the most ever paid for movie memorabilia. The starting price was $1.5 million. That’s right, $28 million . Plus, the buyer had to pay $4.5 million in auction house fees, making the purchase $32.5 million. The auction also included the hat worn by the wicked witch, which sold for $2.9 million dollars.
