A fire damaged a home northwest of Paola late Saturday evening, December 21st, but no injuries were reported. The fire happened at 26516 Crescent Hill Road west of Hillsdale Lake. A resident at the home made a 911 call to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 11:29 that night reporting there was an issue with her wood-burning stove and there was an odor of burning plastic and smoke. Units from the Paola, Osawatomie, Louisburg and Wellsville Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. The first two firefighters arrived and reported that smoke was showing from the home. The first engine from Paola arrived a few minutes later. The fire appeared to be contained to the attic of the residence with some smoke and water damage to the living area.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and a damage estimate is not available. The American Red Cross is helping the family. Units from the Paola, Louisburg, Osawatomie, and Wellsville Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Miami County Emergency Medical Services.
