A tragic fire in Colony. The Colony Community Church was completely destroyed in a fire that started Thursday afternoon, December 26th. When firefighters arrived on scene they found flames shooting through the roof of the structure and despite crews attempting to extinguish the fire, the building appears to be a total loss.
The congregation of the church met last night in the Crest USD 479 parking lot, just south of the church, for a prayer service. Pastor Alex Cochran is asking everyone to pray for their vibrant church community. The congregation will also meet this morning, December 28th, at 9:00 at the Colony Christian Church to pray and have a short meeting to discuss where they go from here.
The Anderson County Fire and Emergency Management Department says firefighters remained on scene all night and into the afternoon and evening hours. Not much is known about where or how the fire started. More information will be released following an investigation.
