Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, died yesterday, December 29th. He was the only former president to have lived to be 100 years old, turning 100 in October. The Democrat from Georgia was 52 years old when he took the oath of office in 1977, and served only one term, being defeated by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election. Concerned greatly about human rights in the United States and around the world, he said this in his farewell address:

Later in life he was known for supporting Habitat for Humanity, and helping build houses for those in need.
