An accident just before 6:00 Monday evening, December 30th, in Miami County sent an Osawatomie man to the hospital. Forty-three-year old Derek Gould was driving southbound on 169 highway just south of 223rd Street. It was raining and his vehicle hydroplaned on the wet roadway. As the vehicle slid, it struck another vehicle, driven by 76-year old Robert Devault of Louisburg.
Gould was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with serious injuries resulting from the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that he was not wearing his seat belt. No word on the type of injuries sustained or the condition he is in now. Devault was not injured in the crash.
The inside lane of the area of the crash was shut down for about an hour while emergency crews worked the scene
