The winter storm that swept through the area over the weekend of January 3rd, dumped a ton of snow and ice on a wide spread area. However, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, people heeded the advice to stay off the roads, for the most part. They report no significant crashes or injuries due to the road conditions, which, by the way are still very dangerous. Travel is highly discouraged today. One major incident occurred yesterday morning when a K-Dot sand and plow truck caught fire on K-68 and Tennessee road. No injuries reported. You can see a picture of the truck on fire on KOFO’s facebook page.

Power outages were a concern. In Ottawa, power went out Saturday night in many areas of town, but Ottawa crews had it all back on in about 30 minutes. An extended power outage was reported in Garnett, and scattered outages in Wellsville, Princeton and Richmond. If your power does go out, in Ottawa call 785-229-3710 or 785-229-3750. If you are an Evergy customer, call 888-544-4852, Three Rivers Electric Co-Op, call 800-892-4852.
