One of the top stories in Miami County happened in the final month. A 16-year-old Spring Hill boy is facing a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of a 15-year-old classmate from Olathe. A 911 call reported that a juvenile had been injured inside a residence in the 22800 block of Lewis Drive in rural Miami County north of Hillsdale.
Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered the 15-year-old boy from Olathe, deceased from a gunshot wound in the home. The 16-year-old boy from Spring Hill was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division reviewed the scene, and a search warrant was executed at the residence. During the investigation, the 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and brought to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. The teen was subsequently transported to a juvenile detention facility. The 16-year-old Spring Hill teen was charged with murder in the first degree: in the commission of a felony.
