There are so many things to be thankful for in Ottawa. One of those is the ability to generate our own electrical power. When the power went out Saturday, January 4th, during the ice part of the winter storm, a lot of people were worried about how log the power would be out. Ottawa City Manager, Brian Silcott, explains that Evergy lost the feed to a crucial substation in Ottawa. He says there is a reason Ottawa had the power back on so quickly:

Ottawa is one of a handful of smaller towns in the area that have the ability to generate power. Others include Garnett and Osawatomie. Without that ability, it would have been a long cold night for many Ottawans.
