The City of Ottawa was ready for the big winter storm that hit last weekend; but, preparation started months ago as various departments began planning on how they would handle small snow event as well as big snow and ice events like what we were hit with. City Manager Brian Silcott says it started months ago with the purchase of salt and other chemicals used to treat the streets so crews were ready when old man winter tried to lay the smackdown on our area:
Silcott says important routes are cleared first… main thoroughfares such as Main Street; the highways within the city; streets such as Ash, Second, 15th, 7th, Cedar, Wilson, Davis and areas near the hospital ,among others.
