The heads of Anderson County Emergency Service departments say the local area fared pretty well through the recent winter storm and praised area motorists for staying home and off the roads as packed ice and snow made traveling dangerous. Fortunately, Anderson County only saw a few inches of snow on top of a thin layer of ice, hardly anything in comparison to some surrounding areas. The biggest issue was ice on electric lines and a few outages were reported in Garnett.

Anderson County EMS implemented an inclement weather response plan from early Saturday evening until 7:00 Monday morning. This plan allowed for staffing of an ambulance in both Colony and Garnett, and first responders were also on hand, equipped with four-wheel drive vehicles. During that time, EMS received a total of eleven requests for assistance, including some Mutual Aid requests in Linn County. Only five of those requests were directly related to the weather. Officials were pleased to see that the community took the warnings seriously and stayed off the roadways.
