
What appeared to be a pretty mundane item on the City Commission agenda, the adaption of the International Existing Building Code in Ottawa turned into a revelation, of sorts, for the commission. After some back and forth discussion between Commissioner and Codes Director, Lucas Neece, City Attorney Blaine Finch, told the Commission that without adapting the code, it would be hard to renovate and rehabilitate existing buildings:
The commissioners were focusing on a part of the code that related to fire suppression systems in new versus older buildings. The code was adapted with a unanimous vote.
