A family down on their luck and living in their car, stayed the night at the Ottawa Cold Shelter, Sunday night, January 12th, but, when they went out to the car, it wouldn’t start. Big issue for a family on a limited income. The call went out from the Franklin County Homeless Coalition for a mechanic to stop by, and within just a few minutes, mobile mechanic Nico Bordelon was on the scene. Though it was only 6 degrees, he immediately went to work underneath the car and the hood and quickly determined it was probably the fuel pump. But, to fix it, he needed it in his shop at Bad Paint Company LLC. He made a call and a friend came and picked up the family and the car and took them to the shop. Once there, Nico tested the fuel pump and found that wasn’t the problem, and knew it had to be the filter. Nico and his crew went and bought a filter, installed it and the car started right up. The car was then presented back to a very appreciative family that relies on the car for more than just transportation.

A shout out to John Calcott from Doodlebinks Garage for reaching out also, just after Nico got to the scene.

Nico, for your incredible compassion in helping out a family in need and going the extra mile to check out, tow and fix their car, you and your crew have received the KOFO Good People Award, an honorary award given to good people who do good things. Congratulations and thank you. The world needs more people like you.
