Franklin County Deputies responded to a disturbance among family members outside Pomona yesterday, January 13th, with a physical altercation which ended with a firearm being discharged into a vehicle. The family argument in the 3000 block of Georgia Road escalated to being physical with one person injured and requiring medical care. That person attempted to leave, when 53-year-old Gene Ferris of Richmond reportedly shot a gun into the vehicle, striking the tire. Three people were in the vehicle including a three year old child. Ferris then left.

Deputies were able to find him at his home in Richmond but he refused to exit the residence. After nearly an hour, he attempted to flee through the back door, but was quickly arrested. Ferris is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal threat, criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to property, felony interference with law enforcement, and aggravated child endangerment.

Sheriff Jeff Richards emphasized that the injuries were not a result of the gun shot, and thanked the Ottawa Police Department for their assistance in ending the incident peacefully.
