A 55-year-old Overland Park man recently was sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison for shooting and killing a 43-year-old Edgerton man at Hillsdale State Park in 2023. Brian Meysenburg was sentenced in Miami County District Court. Meysenburg initially claimed the incident was self-defense, and a jury trial was scheduled to take place in November 2024. It was canceled when a plea deal was reached.
Meysenburg was arrested and booked into Miami County Jail on June 20, 2023, after one person was shot and killed and another was stabbed at Hillsdale State Park.

The incident took place in the early morning hours at the Pintail Point Campground. Emergency personnel were dispatched at 12:14 a.m., and when they arrived on scene, they found one adult male deceased from a gunshot wound and another adult male with a non-life-threatening stab wound. The shooting victim was identified as 43-year-old Bryan Hendrickson of Edgerton. Meysenburg initially was charged in Miami County District Court with one count of second-degree murder, and his bond was set at $1 million.
