A fire yesterday, January 16th, in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue in Garnett, severely damaged a two story home. Garnett Fire Chief Wes Skillman says they received the call just before 7:00 yesterday morning. First responders on scene realized they would need extra manpower and a call went out for Mutual Aid. Several area departments responded to the call, including Richmond Consolidated Fire District Number 1 arriving with pumpers and tankers. The Garnett Fire Department rarely uses it’s tower truck, but, it was brought to the scene to supply water from the air to help suppress the blaze.

Two residents of the home were taken to the Anderson County Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No cause was immediately available. Based on pictures posted on the Richmond Fire District facebook page, the home is a complete loss. Chief Skillman says house fires were down in Garnett last year.

The department received funding for purchasing two thermal imaging cameras, and replacement of the self-contained breathing apparatus. The new equipment should begin arriving sometime in February. KOFO will have more on the house fire in Garnett yesterday morning as soon as more information becomes available
