In the past, the fire department has been more responsive to emergencies, but, these days, they are working on the prevention side of things more and more, and not only fire prevention. Ottawa Fire Department Fire Prevention Coordinator, Lieutenant Mike Wilson says that Community Risk Reduction, or CRR, can help with many dangerous situations. He explains one of those is falls, one of the most common hazards as we grow older:
He adds that if you have any concerns about your home, give the fire department a call. They would be happy to come out and give you some ideas on how to keep your home safer, and they are developing partnerships with civic organizations and churches and work together as a community to reduce the risk.
