The ”My Father’s House” groundbreaking on a tiny home village was no doubt one of the top 10 stories in Miami County last year. We know a little more about the homes and what they will be. About year ago, “My Father’s House” Community Services received a $1 million grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank Topeka. President and CEO of “My Father’s House”:”,

Beth Waddle says the transitional housing shelter for the homeless will begin building a large expansion of tiny homes on a 6-acre tract of land next to the existing shelter. The grant will build 14 tiny homes including all needed infrastructure. Each of the homes will be about 400 square feet and will feature a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. They are designed for one person or a couple. Work will begin quickly and Waddle says construction of the first 14 homes could be complete by the end of this year. She adds that the plan is to have 40 tiny homes in the community. “My Father’s House” has already applied for $1.5 million in funding for phase 2, which would be another 20 homes. Occupants of the homes would pay an income-based rent, without a time limit attached.
