
The victim of a boating accident at Melvern Lake has been identified. The Osage County Sheriff’s Department says 28-year-old Justin Steinman, of Overland Park had been duck hunting when he somehow fell out of the boat he was in, and into the icy waters. After a lengthy search by land, air, and water, Steinman was located. He was rescued from the water and life-saving measures were performed and then transported by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Sheriff Chris Wells says his office and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks jointly investigated the incident. He asks that everyone joins them in thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Steniman as well as the first responders who worked the scene of the accident.
