The 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley will deploy approximately 200 soldiers to the southern border to protect and defend the territorial integrity of the United States, as directed by the president. The Army says under the direction of U. S. Northern Command and Joint Task Force North, the 41st Combat Engineer Company-Armored and the 977th Military Police Company will augment the 2,500 forces already at the border supporting customs and border protection’s southern border mission.

They join 2,500 active-duty personnel already in the region, representing a 60% increase in active-duty forces at the southwest border since President Trump was sworn into office. The President announced new restrictions on immigration and asylum in the United States hours after taking office last week, declaring that he will send troops to the U. S.-Mexico border to help secure it. Trump declared a National Emergency at the southern border.
