Rodents, mice, rats, whatever, they are gross, and plentiful in our area, and, they get in our homes more often than we think. Rodents invade an estimated 18.2 million U. S. homes every year, posing serious risks to health and safety. While diligent housekeeping helps, factors like home age, whether a home is in a rural or urban area, and local climate often play a larger role in determining rodent risks. Since we live in a rural area, they are bound to get in our homes. A recent survey taken by the Cinch Associates, states that about 5,800 people in Franklin County live in homes with signs of mice or rats within the last 12 months. Overall, 23% of Franklin County Homes experience rodent problems, over twice the national average of slightly over 11%.
While home age and urbanization play a key role in rodent infestations, climate is another factor influencing regional differences. States located in colder regions, particularly in the Midwest and northeast, report the highest percentages of homes affected by rodents. Additionally, older housing stock and rural living conditions in these regions provide ample access points and nesting opportunities for rodents.
