The Paola Free Library is one of more than 100 public libraries across the country that recently were awarded funding from the Public Library Association to increase digital literacy. The library will be able to use resources from “digital learn.org”, thanks to a $2.7 million contribution from AT&T. The digital literacy workshop incentive and new digital navigator workshop incentive, support public libraries in their work of improving basic digital skills among families and communities, according to the release.

Paola’s library will focus on computer basics and cybersecurity. These courses will help senior citizens maintain their independence, access accurate information, and stay connected with family and friends. Preteens and other newer technology users will also find the courses helpful as they work to create a positive relationship with technology. Library Director Morgan Menefee says the courses will allow the library to give everyone a solid base on which they can build. Libraries can play a key role in improving digital literacy,
