Prairie Paws Animal Shelter in Ottawa has receive the Rachael Ray “Save Them All” grant from the national animal welfare organization “Best Friends Animal Society” for it’s no kill Kansas program, which will provide lifesaving transport of pets from Kansas shelters that are not yet no-kill. The $30,000 grant will fund the transfer of pets from low-resource shelters to one of Prairie Paws three Kansas facilities, providing those pets a second chance at finding a home. CEO of Prairie Paws, Vanessa Cowie, says the grant actively supports the shelters in Kansas that are struggling to provide live outcomes for the pets in their care, and will cover the cost of transport, housing and veterinary care for those animals.
Cowie says it is their goal to transfer 200 pets into their care this year alone and hopefully re-classify kill shelters into no-kill shelters. The Rachael Ray Foundation helps animals in need and is funded by a portion of proceeds from each sale of Rachael’s pet food, Nutrish. Prairie Paws operates three shelters; the one in Ottawa and the shelters in Manhattan and Emporia.
