Last week, Governor Laura Kelly submitted a request for an extension to file a disaster declaration for the winter storm that struck the state on January 4th and 5th. That extension has been granted.
In case you don’t remember, the storm brought heavy snow, high winds and excessively cold temperatures. The extension was needed to gather all the necessary information to corroborate the incident period and have an accurate assessment of the damage caused by the storms. The extension was granted until March 6th. Kelly says it will allow more time for preliminary damage assessments to seek federal assistance through the public assistance program. The program provides funds on a cost-share basis to repair damaged public infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.
