You may have noticed that one of the most popular truck stops in the midwest, and eastern Kansas was closed late Sunday night, February 2nd. Bert’s Travel Plaza in Wellsville has only been open since 2020, but gained popularity quickly in the trucking community and was named the number one independent truck stop in the Nation by users of the Truck Path app. However, the closure was temporary. It was reopened yesterday, February 3rd, under new ownership.

Bert’s issued a statement saying that they have solely focused on doing one thing – serving the public. Adding, their staff takes great pride in being able to serve the local community, professional drivers, and over-the-road travelers. Opening at the height of the covid pandemic, they say it was surreal how quickly they earned people’s trust. As many stores closed or limited business activity, Bert’s didn’t, keeping their doors open and made sure that professional drivers were not only taken care of but also celebrated.

The new ownership was not revealed, but the former owners assure that many of the old staff will remain and they are excited to continue serving the community and the trucking profession.
