An Ottawa police officer is getting ready for the honor and trip of a lifetime. Master Officer Larabe Alexander has been selected to be part of the Special Olympics Torch Run and World Special Winter Olympic Games in Italy. The only officer in the state to be selected. Alexander say it all starts in Athens, Greece, home of the first Olympic games. He describes some of his duties while there:

He adds that he will be running the torch on several legs of the journey to the games, and, the officer that raises the most funds for Special Olympics, will run the final leg into the stadium.

Wouldn’t it be cool to have an officer from Ottawa do that? Let’s break out the checkbook and make it happen! If you would like to donate to the cause, you can call the Ottawa Police Department and tell them you would like to donate, or feel free to bring any and all donations to KOFO and we will make sure they get to the right people.

Alexander will be our guest on this week’s Community Perspective. Tune in Sunday morning at 8:04 to hear much more.
