Governor Laura Kelly announced that 24 rural Kansas communities will receive a share of nearly $10.9 million through the Community Development Block Grant Program to assist with community development projects. One of those is going to Osage City. They will receive $650,000 for assistance in building community centers, senior centers, storm shelters, parks and libraries. The total cost of Osage City’s project is just over $1.1 million. This includes a community match of $478,000.
The Commerce Department administers the federal funds used by local governments for the development of vibrant, viable communities that address housing, public facilities, and economic needs. The funds must benefit low and moderate income persons, prevent or eliminate slums or blight, and resolve an urgent need that the community can not afford on their own.
