A pilot made an emergency landing in a field in Linn County, on Thursday, February 20th, after the fuel line of his 1968 cessna 177A froze. A Kansas Highway Patrol report says the pilot, 42-year-old Matthew Evans from Indianapolis was flying over the area when the incident occurred just after noon that day. The pilot was not injured and managed to crash land the plane southeast of the intersection of County Road 1650 and County Road 1095. The area of the crash was near a marsh in the Marais des Cygnes wildlife area.
The aircraft, which originated from South Dakota, sustained heavy damage. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office credits Kansas Game Wardens, Linn County fire and the Kansas highway patrol for a quick response in locating the plane and ensuring the safety of the scene and the rescue of the pilot. There were no passengers on the plane.
