Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Water Office have announced a list of communities that will receive water project funding as part of a $26 million grant program. One of those is in Franklin County. Franklin County Water District Number One will receive a technical assistance grant of $18,500. More than 270 communities applied for funding in 2024, requesting a total of $237 million. Grants for technical assistance were awarded to 39 communities.

It’s been a busy year for Water District Number One. The booster pump station on K-68 was retrofit with two new pumps to replace the two from when it was originally built, due to an increase need for maintenance and repair. They also broke ground on a new booster pump station location next to the water tower on Texas Road, west of Wellsville. It’s being outfitted with a triple pump system which will increase pressure and push water into Wellsville, helping with their water needs.
