The Anderson County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge hosted by Anderson County E-community, was held at Troyer’s Prairie Gold recently. The Anderson County YEC competition highlighted student business plans, with participants judged on three key components: the trade show, elevator pitch & interview, and executive summary. The goal of the event was to encourage broad thinking about business concepts, provide hands on experience in professional communication, and give students an opportunity to present themselves in a professional manner while exploring the various facets of running a business.
The winner of the event was Anderson County junior high 8th grader, Vivian Riblett for her presentation of Vivians Slime, which she makes and the product has incredible stretchability and comes in several colors and smells. She will advance to the state competition in Manhattan in April. Second place went to Owen Hawkins, with Owen’s Mowin’, and third pace to Lillian Hawkins with Punki’s Pretties.
Anderson County Economic Development Director, Jessica Ills says the idea is to encourage young people to think big and develop skills to communicate and present ideas in a professional setting.
