An arrest has been made by the Paola Police Department in regard to a fatality accident that happen in mid-December. The night of December 13th, officers responded to a report of an accident in the 600 block of East Peoria Street.
A vehicle driven by 40-year-old Matthew Riha, of Harrisonville, Missouri left the roadway, hit a tree, continued and hit another tree. A passenger in the vehicle, 30-year-old Nathanal Jacobs of Twin Lakes, Minnesota was transported to Miami County Medical Center after EMS initiated life saving measures on scene, however, Jacobs did not survive his injuries.
Following an extensive investigation, late last week, Riha was taken into custody and charged with murder in the first degree, involuntary manslaughter while under the influence, DUI and reckless driving. He is currently being held in the Cass County, Missouri jail. Bond has been set at $750,000
