It’s been about a month since the Ottawa Library announced they purchased the Bottle House and plan to renovate it into a new library for Ottawa. Quite a few things have been done since then. In the library’s monthly newsletter, ‘The 1872 Memo’, they state that they have completed an architectural and feasibility study with initial renovation plans drawn. The study was very favorable and they are now moving forward with the sale, and they closed on the property last month. They are very happy to be staying in the downtown area as the new library will be centrally located with appropriate space for children, teens, and adult programming. The new facility fills their wish to have a drive through window and an area for a Friends Of the Library store.

The initial plan was to build a new library ay 15th and Elm on a property that extended toward the trail. However, as time went on, the cost of a new building was far more than renovating an existing one, and when the Bottle House became available, they jumped on it. The Bottle House location will still hold the Ottawa High School Prom on April 19th.

Though the library won’t be able to occupy the building immediately, they do look forward to hosting some of their programs at the new location soon.
