Thanks to the passing of Senate Bill 199, fireworks can now be sold year-round in Kansas, and retailers are deciding if it’s worth it or not. The law was signed last week, but retailers may be opting out. Some retailers say that shipments are now more expensive because of tariffs, and that some sellers have even stopped their shipments all together. While not planning to sell year-round, one owner plans on extending sales for three weeks around the fourth of July.
Owner of Garretts’ Fireworks, Eric Garrett, says right now, “people wait till the last minute and they walk into a fireworks stand on July 4th and wonder where all the product is… it’s because they waited till the last second to buy. He says the new law gives that time period a little bit bigger for retailers so that they can accommodate people before the season and after. The year-round firework law is in effect now for physical permanent retail locations.
