If you have ever been driving on a highway and seen headlights coming at you in the same lane as you’re in, you know haw scary that can be. A wrong way driver was arrested early yesterday morning, April 20th, on 59 highway. Just before three 3:00 that morning, a motorist called Douglas County 9-1-1 about a vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes and said they had to swerve off the highway to avoid the wrong way driver. A Douglas County deputy quickly located the vehicle and stopped it north of North 650 Road. During the stop the suspect drove toward and struck the patrol vehicle at a slow speed.

Deputies were able to get the suspect out of the vehicle and detain him. After an investigation, the 23-year-old Lawrence man was arrested for DUI, aggravated assault and other charges. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail. No injuries were reported in the incident.
