When the grocery store in Osawatomie closed in 2017, it left a huge hole in the city, a food dessert, some would call it, with people having to drive to Paola to Price Chopper or Walmart. Now, with the opening of the brand new “Oz Mart” across from city offices, those drives may be fewer. The store, along with owner Tony Singh, held a grand opening recently, welcoming in hundreds of people. The new Oz Mart is well stocked with a variety of grocery items, including a section dedicated to fresh produce, like onions, potatoes, peppers, apples, oranges and much more. Items like bread, milk, eggs, canned goods, cereal along with a variety of cleaning items and baby products…all in town!

Singh is a familiar face in town, who has owned and operated Gas Mart in Osawatomie for the past 17 years. He says he was inspired to open Oz Mart in the former hardware store, after listening to all of his loyal gas station customers talk about how they wish they could buy groceries in town. He is listening to customers to figure out what he wants to offer moving forward and plans to add more items as time goes on. Stop by and check Oz Mart out. You may be surprised at how few trips to Walmart you need to make now.
