Louisburg Library District No. 1 Board of Trustees members met with members of the public last night, April 21st, to learn more about the proposed new library project . They are asking district voters to approve general obligation bonds not to exceed $8,750,000 for a new library, estimated to cost $9,978,942. The library district plans to cover the difference from its capital improvement fund.
The services at the library have outgrown the building. They have new technological tools like a 3d printer and lasar engraver, but they are wedged in a supply closet where only staff can access them, limiting opportunities for community use. Items that can be checked out are everywhere, from chairs hanging from stacks of books, the diagnostic scanner wedged on a shelf with fiction novels, and speakers pushed at the bottom of a bookshelf.
Board members say they aim to create a larger, 21st century library facility to allow for more programs and resources that sustain the level of service the community expects and deserves. The Louisburg Library Bond special election is set for Tuesday, May 6, but library district voters can advance vote now.
