Franklin County is spotlighting the Franklin County Attorney’s office. The team at the county attorney’s office work to ensure justice and the safety of our community, while working behind the scenes to protect individual rights and uphold laws. County Attorney Brandon Jones and his assistant’s Joe Falls and Tara Athmer work hard to push cases through the courts.
The prosecution of felony cases is a complex and time-consuming process, often taking up to a year to resolve, and even longer if a jury trial is involved. In 2024, 75 felony sentencings were held – an incredible amount of time and collaboration invested in each case. One type of case that keeps the office busy is child in need of care cases that can extend for many years. Also, they handle a variety of other cases, including misdemeanor, traffic, care & treatment, fugitive, and juvenile case. In 2024, they worked 209 felony cases, 1,534 misdemeanor, 733 traffic, 44 child in need of care, 22 care and treatment, 11 fugitive and 12 juvenile cases.
