Incredible tragedy yesterday, May 4th, in Franklin County. About 5:40 yesterday afternoon, Sunday, May 4th, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County EMS , Ottawa Fire Department and several other agencies, responded to a call of an accident just east of US 169 and Virginia Road, near the Lane exit. Two vehicles collided head on and were engulfed in flames. According to the Kansas highway patrol, 8 people lost their lives in the accident and one other was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The identities of the victims and the cause of the crash is unavailable at this time. The accident scene sits right on the border of Franklin, Miami and Anderson counties.
The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigations. KOFO will have more details about the crash as they become available.
