Both the Ottawa Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s office responded to information they received regarding an anonymous source about a potential threat to area schools. The information was received by multiple jurisdictions in eastern Kansas. The Ottawa police say that out of an abundance of caution each of the schools and preschools in Ottawa were notified.
The sheriff’s department also notified West Franklin, Wellsville and Central Heights of the potential threat. USD 287 West Franklin says their administration, the building resource officer and the sheriff’s department worked together to ensure their buildings were safe and secure, and a caller to KOFO told us their child’s daycare called and told all parents of the issue and ensured them steps were being take to secure the buildings. The Ottawa Police Department says there are no credible threats to any school in our area.
