The City of Ottawa considered a charter ordinance to allow local administration of the transient guest tax. Last year, the city approved a transient guest tax for those staying in hotels in the city. City Attorney, Blaine Finch, told commissioners the ordinance would only change who is responsible for collecting the tax for the city:

Franklin County has been collecting a transient guest tax for many years. Ottawa officials decided last year that since all of the hotels charging the tax were in Ottawa, the city should get a cut also and implemented a 6% tax.
