Be prepared for detours south of Garnett starting Tuesday, May 27th. The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced they will begin working on repairs and renovations to the round-about on that day. They met in Garnett last week to talk about details of the project. The expected completion date is set for July of 2026. Temporary traffic signals will be used in the area and KDOT says drivers can expect brief delays. The merged highway segment just south of the roundabout is the heaviest traveled roadway in Anderson County, with over 5,500 vehicles daily, according to the latest traffic survey.
The round-about was constructed in 2005 at the junction of Highways 59, 169 and 31. It replaced a half stop intersection that had seen a large number of injury and fatality accidents over the decades.
