If you are wondering why your weather radio isn’t working, there is a good reason. The National Weather Service Office in Topeka is conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System . It started yesterday, June 26th, and will run through tomorrow. The weather service uses the computer system to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather warnings, to the public. The radio’s affected are NOAA weather transmitters, all of which will be impacted. You can find a list of the transmitters at weather.gov.
During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted by the weather service office in Wichita to minimize any potential interruption to services. There will be no impact of forecast products and weather watches, warnings and advisories during this period. The NWS Topeka office will remain open and staffed at all hours throughout this update period to answer public and partner phone calls.
As a reminder, it is very important to have multiple ways to receive warning information. Stay tuned to KOFO for all the latest watches or warnings if severe weather enters our area.
